Cindy Mahlangu gets apology for tweet claiming she is a ‘side chick’

Vicky Vee Jones claimed her then partner 'soon to be an ex' brought a plane ticket for Cindy to go see him.

The social media spat between actress Cindy Mahlangu and content creator Vicky Vee Jones escalated quite quickly.

Jones tweeted on 5 March claiming that Cindy was “flew out” by her soon to be ex-boyfriend, the tweet was reposted by gossip site Popcorn Room SA.

Jones seems to claims that her then partner “soon to be an ex” bought a plane ticket for Cindy to go see him. The actress, who has appeared on The Queen and is a cast member on Netflix’s Blood & Water, did not take kindly to this allegation.

She sent Jones a letter of demand for a retraction and apology.  In the legal document, Cindy was represented by attorney Ndumiso Zwane who said the allegations in the tweet were not true.

“Our client has no knowledge of the individual you are mentioning as your soon to be ex-boyfriend/partner. The allegations contained in your tweet are defamatory, intentional, wrongful and unjustifiable,” the letter said.

Clindy is linked to football player Bongani Zungu and the couple made their relationship official in August 2020.

Zungu has had a tough time abroad. He was nearly cut from Rangers club in Scotland after breaking Covid-19 protocols and attending a party with some of his teammates.

Beauty influencer Jones has more than 300,000 Instagram followers and nearly 88,000 YouTube subscribers.

After the letter was sent, Jones said: “I would like to unreservedly and unequivocally apologise to Cindy Thando for my tweet published on the 5th of March 2021, I was aggrieved by the turn of events then went to publish without applying myself. Thus, I retract my tweet.”

Mahlangu accepted the apology.

Twitter users said they would not have been as quick to apologise even with threats of a lawsuit and many thought this was being petty.
