The donation forms part of his annual Hopeful Soles school shoe drive initiative, launched.

Renowned DJ Ashley “Shimza” Raphala, through the Shimuzic Foundation, has donated 3 000 pairs of school shoes to underprivileged pupils.

The donation forms part of his annual Hopeful Soles school shoe drive initiative.

Shimza said the number of shoes donated this year increased by 1 000 compared with the 2 000 pairs distributed last year across the City of Ekurhuleni in Gauteng.

“It’s that time of the year again. Thank you for your support in everything I do. Together, we’re contributing towards education and a brighter future in our communities,” Shimza said in a post on Instagram.

“This year we were able to donate 3 000 school shoes, a growth from last year’s 2 000.”

Starting the year on a high note

Meanwhile, the DJ is preparing for the Cape Town edition of his music event series, Kunye.

The event is scheduled for 7 February at Grand Africa Café & Beach.

The line-up includes Shimza, Kabza De Small, Enoo Napa, Mila-Rose, Pierre Johnson, Rosey Gold and Rudy Julius.

The Cape Town event will be followed by editions in Nairobi later in February and Johannesburg in March.

Kunye was launched in 2020 during lockdown as a series of streamed DJ sets. The platform aims to connect South Africa’s emerging electronic producers with the global stage while elevating the Afro House sound.
