There’s a reason A-listers are willing to put their brand on MCC – the industry is that strong.
If you need proof, the Johannesburg Cap Classique and Champagne Festival is a première event that celebrates MCC producers, as well as providing a variety of elegant and effervescent wines.
This year, French champagne and Italian prosecco will be on show as well, which rounds out the offering but also creates a wonderful experience where South Africans get to know these wines.
While the similarities between MCC and champagne are obvious, prosecco’s lightness is sometimes a welcome surprise.
Top MCC’s include Genevieve MCC, Krone, Simonsig, Paul René, Black Elephant Vintners, L’Ormarins, Graham Beck, Silverthorn, Pierre Jourdan, Boschendal, Pongracz, Villiera, Bon Courage and Saronsberg.
Many of these easy-drinking sparkling wines are already held dear, but the lineup is curated in such a way as to make each feel elevated, especially when chatting to producers.
Some familiar champagnes include Taittinger, Bollinger, GH Mumm, Nicolas Feuillatte and Luc Belaire, while for prosecco lovers there’s Sartori, Da Luca and Valdo.
This year’s festival takes place at the Inanda Polo Club – a perfect way to spend an autumn afternoon. The festival runs from noon to 5pm on April 13 and 14. Wines are also available on the day.
