Ask the doctor: Hangovers and immunisations

By Dr Dulcy Rakumakoe

Dear doctor, since I turned 30 my hangovers seem to last longer, as in three days. Is this due to age or is it that my tolerance is lower?

Unfortunately it is the truth that with growing age the tolerance is lower. Also you are not as excitable as you were previously.

Younger people will tend to just wake up and pick up where they left off. And not start wanting to do things that are more “responsible” hence you feel the effect of the night before more. It is advisable that you reduce the amount you consume so you wake up feeling well.

Dear doctor, are there any important immunisations my kids should have for school?

Immunisations are based on the age of the child, what illnesses are common in that age, seasons like flu season for instance and if there are any expected or suspected outbreaks.

It will help to visit your local doctor who will know if there is anything in particular you will need to protect the child against.
