OPPO Reno16 F 5G has been built around giving users more battery power without increasing bulk

A phone running low on battery has a way of changing your plans. You start dimming the screen, closing apps, switching off mobile data and calculating whether the remaining percentage will last until you get home. The problem is familiar because smartphones now carry so much of everyday life, from work and navigation to entertainment, payments and staying connected.

The OPPO Reno16 F 5G has been built around reducing that anxiety. Its 7000mAh battery is paired with 80W SUPERVOOC charging, giving users more power to work with and a faster way to top it up when they need to. Behind the bigger numbers is a more important change in battery technology: manufacturers are finding ways to fit greater capacity into devices without simply making phones thicker and heavier.

Bigger batteries without the bulk

Battery capacity used to come with a fairly obvious trade-off. A phone that could last longer often needed a larger battery, and a larger battery usually meant more weight and thickness. Advances in battery chemistry are beginning to change that equation.

OPPO uses advanced silicon anode battery technology in the Reno16 F 5G, which allows for higher energy density within the same form factor. The phone carries a single-cell 7000mAh battery while remaining 8.22mm thick and weighing 182g, giving users more endurance without turning the device into something cumbersome to carry.

That extra capacity matters because the demands placed on a smartphone have grown. Streaming video, social media, gaming, navigation, photography and messaging all draw from the same battery, often over a long day when access to a charger is not guaranteed.

The Reno16 F 5G is positioned by OPPO as a two-day battery device, supported by a combination of the 7000mAh capacity and the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy platform. The chipset uses a 4nm manufacturing process, with OPPO citing improvements in frame rate and energy efficiency as part of the wider performance proposition.

Charging is becoming part of the solution

A larger battery solves only part of the problem. Consumers also need to be able to put meaningful power back into the phone quickly.

That is where 80W SUPERVOOC charging comes into the Reno16 F experience. OPPO’s testing shows the 7000mAh battery can reach 50% in around 30 minutes, while a full charge can take as little as 62 minutes under specified test conditions.

The benefit becomes clearer when charging time is translated into actual phone use. According to OPPO’s internal testing, a five-minute charge can provide more than four hours of YouTube use, while ten minutes can provide more than six hours. The company also records more than two hours of WhatsApp use from a five-minute charge under its test conditions.

That changes the role of charging itself. Finding a plug does not necessarily have to mean leaving the phone connected for hours. A short charging window while getting ready or between activities can put meaningful time back into the day.

Built around the way phones are actually used

Battery improvements are particularly useful because smartphone use rarely happens neatly. The same device might move from a video call to navigation, music, photography and social media without much downtime in between.

OPPO has paired the Reno16 F 5G’s 7000mAh battery with ColorOS 16 and the MediaTek Dimensity 7300-Energy platform to support that kind of continuous use. The wider device also includes a 120Hz smart adaptive AMOLED display, meaning battery, performance and screen behaviour work as part of the same everyday experience rather than as isolated specifications.

The change happening in smartphone batteries is therefore bigger than simply adding more milliamp-hours. Higher energy density is making larger batteries easier to package into everyday devices, faster charging is reducing the time users need to stay attached to a wall socket, and more efficient hardware is helping that available power go further.

The OPPO Reno16 F 5G brings those developments together in one device. Battery anxiety may not disappear overnight, but with 7000mAh of capacity and 80W SUPERVOOC charging in your pocket, checking the percentage every few hours may start to feel a lot less necessary.

The Reno16 F 5G will also be available directly from OPPO when the new OPPO South Africa online store launches on 1 October, accessible via the “Shop Now” link on OPPO’s website, with free delivery, an official warranty, a seven-day return or exchange option and 12 months of accidental damage protection covering the screen, back cover and main board. Terms and conditions apply to all online store purchases.
