What many do not realise, is that Instagram has rights to users’ content.


Instagram is the new cool.

This is according to today’s teenagers that are totally obsessed with the photo and video-sharing platform. What many do not realise, is that Instagram has certain rights to user contents.

In 2018, more than 100 million people used Instagram in the United States alone. Experts believe that it will increase beyond 111 million by the end of this year.

This week’s Clicklaw clarifies the terms and conditions that all Instagram users are subject to.

Here are some points to keep in mind:

  • Instagram may track your activity on the platform. This is done with, among other things, artificial intelligence.
  • The platform may share your content with third parties.
  • Instagram is part of the Facebook group of companies. They may share whatever you post with Facebook’s other companies – there are 76 in total.
  • Instagram does not take responsibility for users’ actions. If you have a dispute with another user, you will have to resolve it between the two of you.
  • That said, Instagram may remove user footage complained of.
  • When you delete your profile, note that the content you posted may still be around for a while (or, possibly, forever) after deletion.
