ROG Ally: The ultimate gaming handheld keeps its cool anywhere

The new ROG Ally is a powerful Windows 11 device designed to revolutionise on-the-go gaming in style. Here's what you need to know.

Republic of Gamers (ROG) just announced its latest addition to the gaming handheld market – the ROG Ally.

This new Windows 11 device features an AMD Ryzen Z1 series processor and RDNA 3 graphics, promising high-performance gaming for both AAA games and indie titles.

ROG Ally is here

One of the coolest features of the ROG Ally, in my personal opinion, is its Zero Gravity thermal system.

This system has a dual-fan system with super thin heatsink fins and high-friction heat pipes to keep the device cool no matter which way it’s facing.

Powerful gaming handheld

Even when playing graphically intense games for extended periods, gamers can expect reliable and consistent performance from the ROG Ally.

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again (in our podcast, which you really should subscribe to): ROG pays attention to the details.

About that screen

The ROG Ally’s 120 Hz full HD (1080p) panel with FreeSyncTM Premium support also sets it apart from other handheld gaming devices.

That’s just a fancy way to say the panel is really cool because it is super smooth and clear, and it means the games you play won’t be blurry with weird lines on it.

The device’s high-refresh-rate touchscreen display also ensures clear visibility in outdoor settings, which is ideal for gamers who enjoy playing games while on the go.

User-friendly experience

As impressive as the gaming aspects of this device is, it’s more than just that – it is also a full-fledged Windows 11 device.

It’s even designed in such a way that the joysticks, buttons, and touchscreen support make navigating the Windows desktop a breeze, providing a user-friendly experience.

Travelling light

When it comes to on-the-go gaming devices, weight and ergonomics are always crucial factors, and the ROG Ally has been designed with these in mind.

It weighs only 608 grams – making it the perfect travel companion – and comes complete with ergonomic handgrips with triangle texturing on the rear for a solid hold from any angle.

The ROG styling lines on the palm side of the grip also help prevent accidental slipping, which is always a good thing.

ROG Ally launch

Gamers eager to learn more about the ROG Ally can tune in to the official launch event on 11 May 2023, where full details on specifications and pricing will be shared.

The event will shed light on the ROG Ally’s design story and its impact on the gaming landscape.

The keynote will feature:

  • Shawn Yen, Product Management Director of Gaming Business Unit from ASUS,
  • Roanne Sones, CVP, Head of Xbox Hardware,
  • Frank Azor, Chief Architect of Gaming Solutions and Gaming Marketing from AMD
