From Miss Universe, actress to MC. Zozibini Tunzi speaks about her current endeavours and the power of being a woman.
Former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi brings her signature grace and purpose to Johannesburg this November as she helps drive conversations about empowerment, leadership, and the power of collective action.
When Zozibini Tunzi speaks, people listen. It’s not only her poise or her Miss Universe crown that captivates a room, but also her ability to inspire reflection and action in equal measure.
As she prepares to host one of South Africa’s women empowerment gatherings, Tunzi brings both warmth and conviction to the stage.
“A world where a woman is empowered means that everybody is empowered,” she says with calm assurance. “The World Economic Forum reports that at the current rate, it will take approximately 123 years to achieve global gender equality. To that I say let’s start bridging that gap today. There is no time to waste. We all have a part to play.”
It’s a statement that perfectly captures the urgency and hope that define Tunzi’s advocacy approach. For her, creating platforms that nurture women’s growth isn’t just symbolic – it’s essential.
She believes that when women are equipped with resources, representation, and confidence, entire communities are transformed.
As master of ceremonies for the upcoming EmpoweringHER 2025, Tunzi’s role goes beyond introducing speakers or keeping time.
“The biggest part of my job will be to mirror the conversations and the energy in the room,” she explains. “I like to share anecdotes wherever I can, adding to the ongoing dialogue. I always hope that my presence inspires someone, especially young women. I want them to know that whatever it is they set their minds to, they can accomplish. It is absolutely attainable.”

Tunzi’s message is one of visibility and value. She knows the impact of seeing women succeed in every sphere, from business to the arts to activism. “Visibility, awareness, and tangible change are important when it comes to uplifting women,” she says.
Global stage
“The more we see women rise and equip them with the tools they need to reach the finish line, the closer we get to the dream of a globally empowered woman.”
Her own journey from a small town in the Eastern Cape to the global stage has made her deeply aware of the power of influence.
“I understand the responsibility of my platform,” Tunzi reflects. “I use it to contribute to positive change when it comes to conversations about empowerment and leadership for young women. When they take responsibility for furthering those conversations and equipping themselves with the right knowledge, it creates a beautiful ripple effect. They, too, can pass the baton to the next generation.”
For Tunzi, empowerment isn’t an abstract concept; it’s a daily practice rooted in courage and collaboration. Her hope for those attending the upcoming conference is simple but profound.
“A huge part of my own empowerment journey has been inspired by those who came before me,” she says.
Sometimes, all it takes to ignite a spark inside somebody is a word from a leader and being in the right room. I hope that everyone who attends finds that word and that the energy fuels them into becoming the most empowered versions of themselves.”
Through her words and actions, Zozibini Tunzi continues to prove that power begins with one voice. It grows stronger in chorus. And if her vision is any indication, that chorus is only getting louder.
