A tipper truck driver sustained serious injuries when his truck collided with an articulated truck on the N4 Schoemanskloof, in the vicinity of Indabush and Petatanak today, July 20.

According to Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med, paramedics responded at approximately 12:00 to a serious heavy motor vehicle collision on the N4 Schoemanskloof.

Truck attempts U-turn in roadworks

“Upon our arrival, we found that an articulated truck had attempted to make a U-turn within the roadworks when a tipper truck was unable to stop in time, resulting in a high-impact T-bone collision. The tipper truck sustained significant damage to the cab and the driver became entrapped

“The patient was fully immobilised for extrication purposes. Once freed, the patient was stabilised and treated on scene by Emer-G-Med Advanced Life Support paramedics before being transported to Kiaat Private Hospital for further definitive care,” said Jeffrey.

Police investigates incident

The spokesperson for Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison Moeti Mmusi, said the scene has since been cleared, with no further obstruction to traffic.

The incident has been handed over to police and TRAC N4 officials for further investigation.

“We are yet again appealing for responsible driver behaviour. Every driver should approach construction sites on the road with great caution, reduce speed and only make a turn on the road in a safe manner and in such a way that they do not endanger any road user’s life. We would like to wish a speedy recovery for the driver” Mmusi said.
