In true African style, the Lowvelder’s annual Best of Mbombela commenced with a line-up of local star-studded artists who took to the stage and set the tone for an unforgettable awards ceremony.

With the Penryn Marimba Band welcoming the quests as they arrived outside the venue, the anticipation built up, much like a bomb’s fuse igniting.

The anticipation in the air was tangible.

Guests enjoyed coffee and a scrumptious light finger breakfast prepared by the well-known Elaine Blignaut. The houselights dimmed and it was time for the spotlight to shine on Mbombela’s finest in celebrating only the best in true African style.

Bia and Zané teamed up and delivered a spine-chilling duet version off Toto’s Africa.

Bia needs no introduction. She is one of a kind and an emerging young local artist. Bia matriculated at Bergvlam High School in 2023.
She is not only an artist who draws you in with her words, she definitely captivates you with a little bit of everything.
She performs at various local restaurants and festivals and released her first original single in 2024 called “Vlekkie in my Nekkie”.

Bia is already busy with more exciting new music.

Zané has been singing since the age of 16 and has had several number one hits on Radio Bosveld Stereo, Radio Laeveld, and Overberg Stereo.

At the age of 18 she managed and had her own stage at the KKNK arts festival where she shared performances with some of South Africa’s biggest names on her private stage.

For six years Zané was also part of the Afrikaans is Groot team, and was the production producer and artist line-up manager for Afrikaans is Groot.

Zané has a passion for uplifting women in business and established the Empowerment Collective movement to cheer on young talented entrepreneurs.

After the duet, the Penryn Marimba band had the audience on their feet with their ensemble performance of harmonies.

The Penryn Music Department plays a vital role in nurturing holistic development and creative expression. From the foundation phase to college, music is woven into the curriculum, starting with basic keyboard and music literacy in the Music Lab – one of the only labs of its kind in South Africa.

Their extracurricular activities include choirs, marimba, djembe and ensemble groups, providing pupils with a chance to collaborate and perform.

And with the applause of the distinguished guests lifting the roof, it was time for the Best of Mbombela to ignite.
