He said the first incident occurred at around 22:30 on Tuesday, October 20.

“A motorist was driving along the route when he heard gunshots fired in his direction,” said Masondo. “Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and no damage was sustained to the vehicle.”

In a separate matter, he said the Sabie police received a complaint at about 19:00 on Wednesday, October 21, in which an individual reported hearing gunshots fired towards their direction in the same general area. Masondo added that the complainant chose to not open a case.

He confirmed that no arrests have been made in connection with either incident.

Masondo said a widely circulated WhatsApp message triggered alarm across Lowveld community groups. The chain message warned motorists of heavily armed individuals attempting to hijack vehicles along the route.

“Officers are monitoring the road to ensure public safety,” he said.

Masondo urged motorists travelling between Sabie and White River to remain vigilant, keep vehicle doors locked, and avoid stopping for suspicious persons or situations along isolated stretches of road.

Anyone with information or who observes suspicious activity along the route is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
