TopModel SA: Mpumalanga’s finalist announced in the Lowveld
Maryam is our own top model! Take a look at the competition that took the ramp alongside her last Sunday.
MBOMBELA – Mpumalanga’s finalist in the Top Model South Africa competition was announced at Casambo Exclusive Guest House last Sunday.
Maryam Akoojee will represent our province in the competition’s national final in Johannesburg later this year. The winner of TopModel South Africa will be offered the opportunity to attend the London Fashion Week in April 2016.
The top 15 models, one of whom was male, who were selected from more than 200 locals, competed for the coveted position. They were judged by renowned modelling expert Ms Suzette Marais and four local judges. Marais’ vote counted 50 per cent towards competitors’ total score.
The remaining 50 per cent was calculated by adding the scores given by former model Ms Micaela Simpson, IMG model Ms Andrea van der Westhuizen, Ms Quenita Kruger from Fabs clothing and Mr Jacques Lombard, the founder of the Timeless Face competition.
Their ascent to the catwalk followed a rigorous scouting process, done by Ms Candice Paterson from Master Models. Master Models’ Mr Marc Paterson, who is also a business coach, congratulated the finalists for coming as far as they did in the competition and motivated the crown with a spring pep-talk.
“We all need to grow in order to develop. While celebrating today’s announcement and the new season of spring, we must focus on the need to grow and develop. This is the season to chase your goals,” he said.
