Casambo fashion affair flaunts Lowveld designers’ talents

MBOMBELA – A fashion week may be on the cards for the Lowveld after local fashion gurus put up a show of international standard on Saturday. The Casambo Fashion Affair was a chic event where the Lowveld’s who’s who rubbed shoulders with stars of the local industry.

Lesley Ings, coordinator of the event, said that guests could expect it to be right on trend with everything featured at SA Fashion Week 2015. The champagne, platters with delicious food and eclectic vibe that greeted the attendees created an electric atmosphere.

Local models strutted their stuff on the catwalk in four scenes. The first flaunted ready-to-wear garments from local boutiques.

This was followed by the works of budding designers who are still studying.

The works of those who recently qualified followed before well-known celebrity designers wowed the crowd with their creations. Nathi Bless Thwala, Palesa Mokubung and Xela Fashion Studio’s and Design College’s outfits were a highlight.

Another was the launch of XOXO Designer Men’s Fashion, a collaboration between creative geniuses Fhilip Oosthuizen and Alex Asman of Xela.

The initiative did not consist of a fashion show only. In the weeks leading up to it, local amateur seamstresses participated in a development workshop hosted by Asman. During this they created garments with their newly learnt skills. These were flaunted on the catwalk on Saturday.

Casambo’s Carol Sanderson was delighted to be part of the evening. “We are excited to be hosting an event of this calibre because we are modifying lives in the process,” she said.

Guests were treated to an after party at Casambo, where the success of the evening was celebrated in style.
