Color Run Nelspruit a cheerful festival
3 500 Lowvelders and friends participated in this happy event.
MBOMBELA – Colour is the new universal language, spoken eloquently by members of the rainbow nation. On Saturday The Color Run Nelspruit turned the place of the rising sun’s capital into a colourful hub of activity.
It was a highlight on the Lowveld’s social calendar as about 3 500 Lowvelders and friends converged on the Mbombela Stadium from 08:00.
Runners, kitted out in white, waited for the start signal. However, this was no ordinary five-kilometre run and the start was preceded by a whole lot of dancing. With music blaring over giant speakers, the Color Run DJs got all the participants excited for the rainbow run of their lives.
At 09:00, the first of several groups took off.
The route, planned around the stadium, took participants through four colour stations, where handfuls of red, blue, green and yellow colour powder were slung at fellow participants.
After each colour station, new allies cemented their friendships with lively chatter in the stretches leading up to the next colour bombing. A fun fight would follow.
The happiest five kilometres on the planet was concluded with a finish festival, where DJs strut their stuff again. More colour was handed out and the air was soon filled with spectacular colour bombs.
Yesterday Lindi Tshabangu of Color Run said the event also contributed towards charity.
“Capitec will donate R10 for every ticket sold to Emjindi High School. The funds raised will be used as a sustainable solution in the form of building a nutritious vegetable garden to enrich the lives of the educators and students.”
For the rest of the weekend, participants could speak of nothing else than the wonderful time they had had. Hundreds of social media posts broadcasted their delight.
“I still have a few stains that just won’t budge, but this festival was all worth it!” Hennie Homann said.
“Nellies Color Run was tops!” Joy Sbo Majola exclaimed.
Stains and all, this journalist has to agree – it was the most unique, fun-filled festival I have ever attended.
