Rehlahleng Special School receives gifts from the police
"Most of them like the daily drama Skeem Saam but because they did not have a TV, we decided it was vital to donate one," she said.
STEELPOORT – There was an aura of happiness as pupils from Rehlahleng Special School at Ga Mampuru village were visited by the Tubatse cluster police on March 11.
The police were accompanied by several pastors and various church members from Tubatse, members of the community policing forum (CPF), youth against crime and Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM)’s disability desk.
The police officers handed out goodies to the disabled learners. This included two TV sets, clothes and lots of groceries. Other schools like the Calvin College, Ikhwezi Lokusa Primary School and the Jane Furse Special School entertained the guests with extra mural activities.
Const Victoria Maluleke of the Burgersfort SAPS told the guests that the Rehlahleng pupils faced many challenges as their school was not well equipped.
“Most of them like the daily drama Skeem Saam but because they did not have a TV, we decided it was vital to donate one,” she said.
Maluleke thanked all the sponsors. “We aim to bring smiles to these kids, I believe we achieved that today,” she added.
Mr Madikologe Magakwe from GTM’s disability desk warned locals to stop undermining the disabled.
“We plead with you to stop calling the disabled derogatory names that undermine them. A disabled person is still a human being, and don’t hide them in your homes,” he said. The event was concluded with the cutting of a cake donated by Pick n Pay Steelpoort.
