Dasha’s years of influence celebrated
Dasha celebrated their 21st birthday with a fun day for the family and Lowvelder took some social pics

MBOMBELA – Dasha Foundation celebrated its 21st birthday over the past weekend and it has certainly come a long way: Over the years the foundation has changed the lives of many disabled children and adults for the better.
It celebrated by organising a run, cycle and horse-ride morning on Saturday September 3. Cyclers, runners and horse riders flocked to Humble Horses Therapy Riding Centre situated on the Best of the Rest Road. It was a fun-filled morning and patrons could enjoy the beautiful landscape of the Lowveld, knowing that their donations and participation had contributed to a worthy cause.
All finishers enjoyed a piece of birthday cake and received a medal for their efforts.
The name Dasha Foundation, which means “God’s gift”, is the umbrella company under which three facilities
are run.
At the Stimulation Centre for Seriously Disabled Children, exercising and other activities are undertaken according to each child’s abilities.
Occupational and physiotherapists as well as oral hygienists visit the centre regularly to help develop and care for the children. To these kids even the most basic life skills, like eating and washing, are a struggle and needs to be taught and practised at the centre, by qualified therapists.
Dasha Foundation also runs an educational school for children, where every child is taught according to his or her abilities. Regular school subjects, like reading, writing and arithmetic are taught and each child works at his or her own level.
Children and adults attend the Protective Workshop to receive skills training. They are taught to produce saleable goods. Skills include knitting, sewing, and bead- and artwork. Good-quality products are sold as the opportunity arises.
In spite of fees being paid and a subsidy from the Department of Social Services, Dasha is dependent on donations and support from private sponsors to continue its good work.
