Modikwa cycles 94.7

It was a challenge but it was fun!

The Telkom 94.7 Cycle Challenge was held at the Riversands Commercial Park in Fourways on Sunday, November 20.
Thirteen members of the Modikwa Cycling Club participated in this 95km route.
“One of the advantages of the race was the road closures for most of the day. Cyclists thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of riding on the normally very busy roads and highways in and around Johannesburg.
“As part of the route cyclists were also treated to cycling a lap on the newly renovated Kayalami Race Track,” commented one of Modikwa’s cyclists, Helhard Prins. A total of 33 000 riders took part in the race this year.
“It was very hot and humid and a lot of riders experienced cramps, but there were enough medical stations along the route to assist with massages.”
A new addition to the challenge were bike stations with proper bike mechanics where riders could get help with minor mechanical problems and punctures.” Members of the Modikwa Cycling Club who participated were Hope Tyira, Darren and Ilse McDonald, Helgaard and Juanita Prins, Derek and Bev Rieck, André, Carine and Nicole Duminy and Jannie and Sanet Oosthuizen and their son, Anton.
Darren McDonald recorded the best time of the Modikwa cyclists. He completed the race in 4:04.
