Samaritans bring bags of goodies

MALALANE – Pure delight was written all over the faces of residents at Amazing Grace Children’s Home, when they were each given a large gift box and a backpack stuffed with school essentials on Monday morning.
Pam and Tamsyn Galloway came all the way from Johannesburg to make the kids’ Christmas an extra special one, and say they were rewarded by the joy on the little faces.
The mother-and-daughter team are friends with Amazing Grace volunteer, Margie Wackrill, and decided to spread some love to the Mpumalanga orphanage after a successful Santa Shoebox Project. They asked friends and family for money instead of birthday and Christmas presents and spent it on gifts for each of the 27 children.
Every child received two brand-new outfits, toys and a backpack with stationery and other school supplies. Some even got little tents, that the volunteers had to immediately help to erect. Others were so impressed with their new clothes that they quickly went to change and spent the rest of the day sporting the beautiful outfits.
Sannita Nhate said the home’s greatest need currently is food and clothing. “Clothing is so expensive and some of them only ever get hand-me-downs. These gifts will help us out a lot.”
She smiled brightly at Wackrill and thanked her, the Galloways and their team for everything. “Margie has assisted us in so many ways. She has been teaching the little ones every week since the beginning of the year.” The volunteer also helped a lot with the vegetable garden. Nhate and Wackrill thanked Decor Transport for their donation to help grow the garden.
