Bergvlam’s matriculants strive for greatness

Among the schools Lowvelder visited, Bergvlam was no exception for the matrics of 2016.

MBOMBELA – Hoërskool Bergvlam has a 99,5 per cent pass rate, as only one student failed. She fell ill during her exams, and due to these circumstances, the school is allowing her to rewrite. If she passes, it will mean a 100 per cent pass rate for Bergvlam. The school has a 51 per cent admission allowance to universities.

The following pupils had five or more distinctions:

  • Michelle Kasa has earned herself eight distinctions. She was awarded as the dux learner for 2016 and was also a CANSA debutant, captain of the swimming team, and played for the first hockey team. She will do a BCom in financial accounting in 2017.
  • Shalati Maselele has five distinctions, played first team hockey, and has been accepted to study medicine at the University of Cape Town.
  • Amori Potgieter has achieved five distinctions and will study to become a teacher in Potchefstroom. She wishes to specialise in mathematics for grades eight to matric. She participated in tennis, swimming, and hockey.

There are two students with four distinctions, and 13 students that have three each. Hoërskool Bergvlam had 189 matrics, and achieved 123 distinctions for 2016. “Constant perseverance and hard work bore fruits of their labour. Congratulations to all our pupils, you held our school’s name high. Hoërskool Bergvlam is bursting with pride. Not only are we among the best schools in the province, but Michelle Kasa is one of the provincial top achievers,” the principal Ms Annemarie Kleynhans commented.
