Skateboarders slide and grind on the edge

Skateboarders showed off their flips, slides and grinds at I'langa Mall's skatepark on Saturday. It was the second Gsk8T event of the year.

MBOMBELA – Gsk8T organiser, Gareth Green explained that they alternate the venue between the mall and Makro each month. Gsk8T is an outreach programme, but not affiliated to any church.

“It is faith-based,” the youth minister said. “We don’t Bible-bash them, but I’m looking to draw in misguided and troubled youths. We use the skateboarding to draw them in and they build friendships.”

The top seniors for the weekend’s Car Park League was Kelvin Vosloo in first place, Jonathan Liebenberg in second and Simon de Goede in third place. In the junior competition, John Mavimbela placed first, followed by Xander Cope and Zack Roos in third place.

The next event will take place at Makro on May 13. Also look out for the competition on June 3 and 4 at the motor show at Riverside Mall. All are welcome to come and support them and get more kids on board.
