Convicted Kimberley rapist allegedly hiding in Pretoria
The man escaped from Kimberly prison on June 6 after he was denied bail.
A 35-year-old rape convict who escaped from the Kimberley prison is believed to be hiding in Pretoria, police said on Thursday.
Andries Thabiso Veleko was arrested in Kimberley on March 18 for various crimes including hijacking, armed robbery, rape, fraud and shooting and injuring a police officer. He also has a previous conviction for rape, Pretoria East Rekord reported.
“He is originally from Postmasburg, in Northern Cape, but we believe he could be in and around Mamelodi, Pretoria,” Kimberly police spokesperson Captain Mkolasi said.
Valeko escaped from Kimberly prison on June 6 after he was denied bail.
The Hawks’ organised crime unit in Northern Cape asked the public to any sightings of Valeko.
