Pretorians most likely to be hijacked on a Friday
“A drastic increase occurred from 17:00 in the afternoon due to motorists heading home.”
You are most likely to be hijacked on a Friday if you live in Pretoria, reports Rekord East.
This is according to the latest National Hijacking Prevention Academy statistics on hijacking hotspots and times where hijackings are most likely to take place.
According to the NHPA report, most hijackings occur on a Friday.
“Reaching a high on Fridays, due to motorists being more relaxed and traffic increasing earlier on a Friday. Weekends show a lower hijacking rate due to syndicates checking their stock and placing orders, on Mondays as well as the fact that there are fewer vehicles on the road. This also explains why Tuesdays and Wednesdays show more hijackings.”
The report further highlighted that just like any other well-oiled machine, hijacking syndicates also check their business forecast, and work around days and times they predict their hijacking would be more successful.
“They will target 6:00, as they have established this is the time most people start their travelling for the day, hijackings are not limited to late-night hours anymore, and can happen at any given time.”
“A drastic increase occurred from 17:00 in the afternoon due to motorists heading home. Vehicles hijacked during this traffic peak hour between 16:00 to 20:00 may be explained by the fact that people returning from work are often tired, frustrated and not alert to potentially threatening.”
Streets mostly affected by hijackings are Burnett Street, Lynnwood road, University road, Garsfontein road, Delfi avenue, Watermeyer Street, Atterbury road, Hilda street, Grosvenor, Simon Vermooten and Duncan Street.
