HAZYVIEW – The contamination of the Sabie River and surrounding tributaries with the town's raw sewage has finally come to an end. The Mbombela Local Municipality confirmed to Lowvelder that the broken pump on the eastern side of the R40, handling almost a third of the town's sewage, had been repaired. This was confirmed by the Inkomathi Catchment Management Agency (ICMA), a body within the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) who had issued a notice to the council in June regarding the breach of the National Water Act.

In July, DWAF stated that it would open a criminal case against Mbombela if it did not comply with the notice. ICMA officials visited the site on August 13 with a representative of MLM, and again on August 15, to ensure that no more leaks and spills had occurred.
