Burgersfort to have its own casino

Locals can expect a majestic and world class casino

BURGERSFORT – After being in the pipeline for many years, renowned hospitality and gaming group Peermont Hotels, Casinos and Resorts commenced with the construction of its latest project, the Thaba Moshate Hotel, Casino and Convention Resort in town on Thursday.

The site is located just off the R555 to Steelpoort, aproximately 500 metres from the intersection between the R37 to Polokwane and Steelpoort’s R555.

This came at the right time as most locals were gradually losing patience, with believing that a casino was going to be built. At this juncture, they see the light.

“For years we were told about this casino, now we will get to see if it will be completed. Sometimes talk is cheap. We believe more job opportunities will be provided for us,” one of the residents said.

The dignitaries who attended the ceremony included Peermont’s development and compliance executive, Mr Thabo Mokoena, Limpopo Gambling Board CEO, Mr Serobi Maja, chairman of the Limpopo Gambling Board, Mr Mokono Mashile, Tubatse executive mayor, Cllr Nkosi Josias Mahlake and chairman of the portfolio committee on economic development, Dr Mateme Hunadi. Local media representatives and community members were also present to witness the epoch-making event.

Mokoena says the locals and people of Limpopo in general can expect a majestic and a world-class casino.

“The project will cost an approximate R320 million, and should be completed in March 2015. It will offer an entertainment complex comprising 150 slot machines, eight gaming tables, 80 key modern and contemporary select-services, three-star Peermont Met Court Hotel, a conference centre, a 148-seater restaurant, show bar, teenage entertainment area, child-care facilities, pool terrace and boma.”

Mahlake was thrilled with the prospect of Tubatse having an opportunity to own one of the few casinos in the province.

“The new resort will drive enterprise development, job creation and local development around the Greater Tubatse Municipality and the Sekhukhune District Municipality. We can’t wait for it to be completed,” he said.

Thaba Moshate is a Sepedi word, meaning mountain palace or castle.
