Helping Hand Delmas named Mpumalanga’s branch of the year

Solidarity Helping Hand’s branch in Delmas was named the Mpumalanga region’s branch of a year during the organisation’s recent conference.

Solidarity Helping Hand’s branch in Delmas was named the Mpumalanga region’s branch of a year during the organisation’s recent conference.

Each region’s branch of the year received R5 000 to use for a worthy and focus-driven Helping Hand project.”We plan to use a portion of the money for our existing feeding scheme”, says Diane Bath, branch chairperson. “We also hope to establish a bursary fund and a portion of the money will be used for that purpose”.

Various schools in the Delmas region benefit from the national Lunchbox Project. Moreover, 130 children have already been registered to receive schoolbags next year as part of the Schoolbag Project.

The branch further invested in poverty prevention by approaching B&T Steel to provide basic steelwork training to students. These students are thereafter placed with companies in order to obtain the red seal qualification.

The Delmas branch runs a monthly soup kitchen that provides food and household effects to about 40 families as well as a clothing bank. It also recently had eye tests and spectacles sponsored for underprivileged people.

To get involved with the branch and to make a difference in your community, phone Diane Bath on 083 401 6285 or send an e-mail to dianeb@conteltech.co.za.

To make a financial contribution towards Helping Hand’s projects, SMS the word ‘hand’ to 34388 (R2/SMS).
