SWAZILAND – The Komati Basin Water Authority (Kobwa) celebrated its 21st anniversary at Pigg’s Peak Hotel and Casino in Swaziland last Thursday.
South African and Swazi nationals have achieved 21 years of service with loyalty, trust and ethics to the best and sole interest of Kobwa and parties. According to
Ms Siphiwe Shongwe, media relations manager, they conduct business in a manner that is international, professional, neutral, transparent and equitable to parties and other stakeholders.
Kobwa is a binational entity formed in 1993 through the treaty on the development and utilisation of the water resources of the Komati River basin which was signed in 1992. The agreement was between the Kingdom of Swaziland and the Republic of South Africa. The purpose was to implement phase one of the Komati River basin development project. Phase one comprises the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Driekoppies Dam in South Africa and Maguga Dam in Swaziland. “Kobwa is now focusing on the operation and maintenance of the dams and related infrastructure,” said Shongwe.
