A 10-ton goods truck fell of a bridge along the R36, 10km outside Lydenburg yesterday.
It is alleged that the driver of the truck lost control along the wet road causing him to skid off the road. The truck then crashed into the bridge barrier tearing off parts of it and finally landed on the river bank below.
On their arrival, ER24 paramedics found that both occupants of the truck were seriously injured where the driver had a broken sternum and ribs as well as a deep laceration of the ear. Both patients were transported timeously to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
This is the fourth truck collision that ER24 paramedic Carel Pretorius has attended to in the past month.
Pretorius emphasised that speed and failing brakes causing loss of control were major causes for many collisions along Mpumalanga’s mountain passes, especially during or after rainfall.
