MASHISHING – Batsumi Ba Lentsoe is a local choir in Mashishing which represents Thaba Chweu in the gospel clap ‘n tap industry. It was established in April 1991 by young people from various local churches and in April this year they celebrated 23 years of existence.

This choir has grown significantly since its latest album’s release.

“All this growth in the choir is happening because God is opening His hand to release His blessings to the group,” said Mr Nsizwa Nyundu, producer/coordinator. The choir currently has 52 registered members and the number continues to grow.

According to Nyundu, it has shared the stage with big names in the gospel music industry, like Rebecca Malope, Derick Nzimande, the late Michael Mazibuko, Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors, Jerusalema Encha, Majalefa A Morena, Masibulele Ku Jehova, and last year they were the opening artist for Worship House at Mbombela Stadium in December during the Moral Regeneration Concert. They have shared the stage with more than 110 clap ‘n tap choirs since inception.

He said the choir had been established to meet the following objectives – spreading the word of God through its music, encouraging participation in the Christian movement among young people and encouraging singing and building a spirit of fellowship and unity with other choirs.

The members also want to perform at community events and functions that support the Christian religion in order to uplift, promote and maintain the standard of gospel music in society and to contribute to the reduction in crime, teenage pregnancies, and drug and alcohol abuse among the young people of Mashishing.

Nyundu said that they would like to thank the following companies who supported them – A1 Dry Cleaners, Maleshoko Decoration and Catering, Longtom SUPERSPAR (catering during trips), TMM Entertainment (sound system), Barko Financial Services (T-shirts and shirts), Moribo Securities (T-shirts for supporters), Full Output (banners), Basebenzi Mining Solution (Printing of T-shirts), Happy Sound (supporters’ T-shirts) and Lydenburg Steers (catering).

“We thank the parents of all the members for allowing their children to be part of this choir and lastly we like to thank the community for their continuous support by attending our shows and buying our music, God bless you all. Without Mash FM the choir would not reach the other areas in Thaba Chweu. A high five to Mash FM presenters and management for helping us spread our music.”

The choir will launch its new album titled Mele pelo Lemoa, which means body, heart and soul, on June 8 at the Mashishing community hall at 13:00. They will share the stage with Blessing Gospel Choir of Rustenburg and also St Cecilia Sodality of Randfontein.
