MBOMBELA – A woman was assaulted with a taser and robbed after withdrawing R39 000 from a bank in the CBD earlier today.
The suspect grabbed her handbag, but was apprehended soon after. According to Mr Vernon Lancaster of Hi-Tech Security Nelspruit, they do not know why the woman withdrew such a large amount of cash.
He said she had just withdrawn it when the suspect shocked her with the taser and grabbed her handbag which contained about R39 000. He fled and an official of Hi-Tech Guards, Mr Alfred Zwane, gave chase. He overpowered the suspect, recovered the handbag and called for back-up. Officials of Hi-Tech Security then assisted Zwane and the suspect was handed over to the police.
The victim didn’t require any medical treatment.Lancaster warned the public not to withdraw large amounts of money when alone. Women are encouraged never to wear their handbags around their necks as this increases the risk of injury during a snatch and grab.
