MBOMBELA – The ANC in Mpumalanga intends to monitor its own deployments’ performance better henceforth. This was one of the resolutions that came out of the party’s provincial lekgotla which came to an end at Casambo Exclusive Guest Lodge on Saturday.
The provincial party chairman, Mr David Mabuza, said ruling party members in government positions will be assessed. “The contracts of some heads of departments will come to an end soon and it will not be renewed,” he told Lowvelder.
All mayors and MECs attended the lekgotla and are meant to report back on their implementation of the new resolutions to the provincial party leadership in three months.Mabuza indicated that members will not be getting clean slates, and past actions will form part of the assessment.
He said in his closing of the meeting that at this past lekgotla he has seen a change in members. “There is a sense of urgency, a feeling of renewed vigour that comrades are to tackle resolutions head-on. Everyone here must integrate the resolutions into their plans and I think everyone must come to report back in three months.”
Mabuza said the party was very concerned about local government and issues and wanted a thorough analysis of the past election results, which saw them lose three seats in legislature.
“We had a presentation here but it was too shallow. We told them to go back and probe to find the reasons why we had achieved what we had, why service delivery had gone down. It is time to respond to issues.”
