Two people died and two others were seriously injured in an accident on the R356 between Hazyview and Sabie on June 7.
The driver of a blue Toyota Tazz attempted to prevent a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle but lost control over his vehicle in the process. It then tumbled 20 metres down a steep embankment.
The accident took place at around 14:30 near Tikka-Tikka, four kilometres from the Sabie turn-off.
Madeleine and Marius van Staden of PRU arrived on the scene shortly after the accident, followed by the Hazyview Police. Madeleine said it seemed as if the vehicle was speeding.
The four passengers, of whom two died on impact, were all flung from the vehicle. One victim was found near the side of the road, attempting to crawl out of the bush. He was stabilised and treated by PRU personnel.
The extremely thick bush saved the life of another passenger as the vegetation broke the impact of his fall. After being stabilised, it took PRU, members of the SVNS and the State Emergency Services an hour to move the seriously injured victim to the safety of the ambulance.
