MALALANE – There were no serious injuries when the driver of a Nida truck veered off the N4 and collided with another vehicle before he drove into the corner of the Boxer building in town.
This came to light on the evening of Wednesday July 3 at the N4 and Air Street intersection.
It was alleged by officials on the scene that the truck driver, who was travelling past Malalane collided with a Toyota bakkie turning into Air Street, which had right of way.
According to the bakkie’s driver, Mr Shadreck Lubisi, the truck was travelling at a high speed and didn’t stop, passing vehicles which were waiting for the traffic light to give them right of way.
It collided with his vehicle, dragging it along off the road before the truck came to a standstill, after which it drove into the corner of the retail store.
“All I remember was seeing it fast approaching while I was entering the intersection. The next thing I heard was a loud crash, and noticed that I was being pulled backwards, even though I was stepping on the brakes,” said Lubisi who was grateful to be alive..
Lubisi claimed he had recently purchased the vehicle from a Swaziland national and was en route to surprise his family in Matsulu.
“I had just bought the car today and had not yet even arrived at home with it. I was hoping to surprise my family. I wanted to make a stop at SPAR to buy something for my family, that was when the accident happened.” he explained.
Lubisi was treated for minor injuries on the scene, while the truck driver also received more serious medical attention in a Securicon Emergency ambulance.
