MBOMBELA – The feud over an RDP house in Tekwane North continues. A court order has decreed that possession of the home be returned to Ms Engelinah Dibakoane. Sgt Billa Samon and his wife Ms Bafikile Madonsela currently reside there and claim it belongs to a relative.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) had been approached by legal representatives of Dibakoane to urgently attend to the court order, which was handed down in 2013. Her attorney explained that it was not opposed by the respondents.
Mr Freddy Ngobe, spokesman for the Department of Human Settlements, confirmed that it was aware of Dibakoane’s case, but since the matter had been referred to the NPA for intervention, it could not comment.
Ngobe explained that civil servants (government employees) were not prevented from owning RDP houses, but that the criteria to be awarded a home depended on the salary scale of the family.
If a single person earns less than R3 500 per month or if a couple earn less than that, they qualify for a house. Other criteria is that the beneficiary must be older than 21, a South African, and must have never before been awarded an RDP house.
