Request to restore a persons dignity

For the past seven years Anthony Baaitjies has been staying in a house without a roof.

This was after a fire had destroyed everything from the trusses, walls, electric wiring and all furniture and other belongings. On top of that, he is unemployed and has lost the support of his family and friends as his wife and four children have left the house.

Despite promises from the local government, municipality and ward councillors, who have pledged to assist him, nothing has been done to date.

A good Samaritan of the community, Creswell Edwin Da Silva, has now decided to take matters into his own hands, and with other members of the public they request the support of Barbertonians to help restore the Baatjies’ dignity.

Da Silva says what makes this town truly amazing is that people here stand together in times of need and he knows in his heart that this time won’t be any different. “We will be thankful for and will accept any kind of contribution from organisations and businesses to support Anthony Baatjies.

While some members of the community are blessed to have had their homes and personal property spared, this citizen is suffering crippling losses from the fire damages.”

Quotations on fixing the house are estimated at R42 336,13.

In the meantime, Baatjies has no bed, roof and practically nothing that most of people take for granted each day of our lives.

An affidavit declaration from Da Silva, stating that the request for donation is non-profitable, with the quotes, can be requested at any time.

“This is not for any personal benefit. The purpose is solely to assist to repair a family house in our community at 14 Jaftha Street,” said Da Silva.

Anyone who wants to lend a helping hand can contact Creswell Edwin Da Silva on 076-6 77-43 74 or 013-712-9652.
