Man’s fraud trial stalls

The fraud trial of Mr Derek Poole has stalled in Sandton after a double-booking in court resulted in him missing the scheduled beginning of his hearing.

MBOMBELA – The trial of an alleged fraudster has stalled in Wynberg, Sandton after a double-booking in court resulted in him missing the scheduled beginning of his hearing.

Mr Derek Poole faces various charges of fraud in Hazyview and Mbombela. His trial on the charges in Gauteng was set to commence on June 26, the same day he was due in the Nelspruit Magistrate’s Court.

He failed to turn up in Wynberg, yet appeared in Nelspruit on the day, where his case was postponed to August 4. However, sources say that the Wynberg-trial has to date failed to commence.

Poole also previously had his R2 000 bail in Hazyview revoked due to double-bookings. He faces a charge of fraud related to a complaint lodged by Ms Carol van der Westhuizen of GAP Tours, who alleged that he owed her about R25 000 for a group safari.

He is next due in court on July 31. Poole also faces charges of fraud and assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm after he allegedly attacked his landlord in Mbombela.
