BURGERSDORT – The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) members at the Greater Tubatse Municipality (GTM) are threatening to embark on a full-blown strike if what it calls a salary anomaly and corruption are not addressed.

More than 150 members attended the meeting at the municipality’s boardroom for a report-back on progress with worker grievances that the union had raised with the GTM.

The workers accuse the acting municipal manager (MM) Ms Adelaide Monyepao of running the municipality like a spaza shop. On Tuesday and Wednesday operations came to a halt as the municipal officials were not working, and most were seen gallivanting in town.

The workers sang and chanted calling for Monyepao to be fired and arrested. Among the worker’s grievances was that the municipality stop outsourcing some of its services as that promoted corruption. For this article and more grab a copy of Steelburger/Lydenburg News tomorrow.
