SPCA Bikers Day Jol a huge success

Saturday’s Bikers’ Day Jol was a huge success and bikers came from afar to join the fun at Lovely Jubley, where a fund-raiser was held to support the struggling Barberton SPCA.

According to Marlies Liebenberg, secretary of the shelter, it was heartening to its members to hear the magnificent machines thunder down the road, laden with pet food and goodwill.

“When a biker was asked whether he carried the big bag of dog food he donated all the way from White River on his bike, he smiled, pointed to his biker chick and said, ‘no, she did. Well done to her’,” Liebenberg said.

Many locals came to support the initiative. Liebenberg added that a small mountain of pet food and toys were collected as well as over R12 000 to help the animals.

“Steelwings Nelspruit, the Harley-Davidson chapter, handed over a voucher of R3 000, and R1 000 was presented by the tattoo parlour who inked the burley biceps of many a biker. Local businesses came to support with a variety of stalls to browse for goodies and delicious food, with music and some showing off on the machines that made rubber fly and filled the air with a blue haze,” said Liebenberg.

Owner of the Lovely Jubley, Steve Crossley, the originator of the fund-raiser, has announced that this will become an annual event for the SPCA. “It will certainly grow bigger and better as it will feature prominently on the biking annual-events calendar,” he said.

Liebenberg said the SPCA was extremely grateful to Steve, the stallholders, the locals and all the generous and wonderful bikers who came to the rescue of our animals in need.
