R1.2 million ‘missing’ from TCM
The newspaper sent through several queries to TCM regarding the missing million. The newspaper asked where the money went missing, from which department and who is responsible for picking up on possible monies going missing. The governing body did not reply to the questions posted and remain mum on the subject.
LYDENBURG – Despite owing creditors millions of Rands, TCM seems blasé that another R1.2 million has simply gone ‘missing’. According to DA Cllr. Jansen van Vuuren he was reliably informed of the missing moneys from a reliable source within TCM. “If you have an auditor general’s report that says that this governing body has R75 million in unauthorised expenditure, R42 in irregular expenditure and R20 million that cannot be tracked, it is not surprising at all that R1.2 million can go missing. This is testimony to the fact that there are no internal controls of any note within the municipality.” Jansen van Vuuren said the fact that TCM have had numerous MM and mayors over the years also attests to a severe lack of institutional memory and creates many open doors for corruption.
