KOMATIPOORT – Reports are coming in regarding a protest that happened at the Lebombo border today. Claims are coming in that the South African border officials apparently implemented a new law regarding entry into the country.
The new act apparently requires Mozambicans to either have R3000 cash on them or a valid bank statement reflecting this amount in their personal accounts. This new law apparently came into effect on August 1.
A source stated that this apparently caused an uproar at the border when people tried to enter the country. Mozambican protesters then closed the border saying if they can’t go to South Africa, South African visitors would not be allowed into Mozambique.
The source claimed they had now cleared the road and travellers were moving through slowly. “There is a lot of tension around and people are very nervous”
