Man sentenced to 58 years in jail

A man who terrorised the community of KaBokweni was sentenced after being found guilty on six counts of different crimes.

Nhlanhla Lesego Malope (31) was sentenced to 58 years’ imprisonment in the Nelspruit Regional Court on August 14 after being found guilty of robbery, kidnapping, rape and sexual assault.

Malope was arrested in March 2012 at Phola Park in KaBokweni for crimes he had committed in February and March that same year.

Magistrate Mr Amos Khumalo applauded the work of the SAPS and the thorough investigation which led to Malope’s conviction.

“I have an obligation towards members of the society to have him removed and locked away. He has inflicted pain and suffering,” said Khumalo.

Malope received a total of 30 years’ for two counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, 12 years for the two counts of kidnapping, 10 years for rape and six years for sexual assault.
