Municipal official caught red-handed trashing town

The municipality confirms that it was one of their own who was caught dumping what is presumed to be trash in the stream.

Mpumalanga’s capital is turning into a pigsty. Lowvelder reported last week how rubbish was filtering into the streets, pavements, parks and wetlands of Mbombela.

This week, this vehicle was observed between Lost Trail and Republiek Circle apparently dumping trash into the small stream there. According to the eyewitness the incident occurred at around 11:00 on Monday. The vehicle carries the Mbombela Local Municipality’s (MLM) logo. Spokesman for the municipality, Mr Joseph Ngala, has confirmed that the vehicle and driver are from MLM’s roads and storm water department.

While it is not clear exactly what is being dumped from the photos, Ngala said the official had to be reprimanded for the action. “He will get a written warning. Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention.”
