Swimming pool soon to be open to public

In comparison with the state the pool was in on August 20, the improvement is clearly visible.

The Van Riebeeck Park swimming pool is not yet open to the public, but Mbombela Local Municipality (MLM) says it should be ready before the first event kicks off on September 20.

Late last month, the pool had been in such a state that it seemed as if the swimming season would end before it even started. Yet MLM worked tirelessly to get it ready.

In comparison with the state the pool was in on August 20, the improvement is clearly visible.

It forms part of the project to upgrade the Van Riebeeck Park complex. Current upgrades include the facilities being cleaned up, the lawn being mowed and the swimming pool undergoing chemical treatment.

It is now sparkling clean and although the water is still cold, the pool is expected to be ready by next week.

Municipal spokesman Mr Joseph Ngala said the Mbombela, White River, Nelsville and Valencia pools will open for the swimming season next week.

“The general upkeep of the buildings and mowing of the lawns will be ongoing as usual.”

Swimming events to take place at Van Riebeeck Park:

September 20: Mpumalanga Sprint Gala (school trials one)

October 3 to 4: Mpumalanga Age Group One

October 7: Wild Geese Middle Distance Gala

October 24: Mpumalanga Top Schools (high schools)
