Officer to reappear in court again after rape allegations

She was assisted by the suspect, who allegedly detained her for an unknown reason and sexually assaulted her in an office next to the community service centre.

WHITE RIVER – A warrant officer who has been accused of raping a 66-year-old woman on July 13, is expected to be back in court on October 3. The case was postponed on August 27 for further investigation and outstanding DNA tests.

The 47-year-old officer was arrested shortly after the apparent incident and was released on R1 000 bail. It is alleged that he raped the woman in plantations near her house shortly after she had come to the station to report an assault.

She was assisted by the suspect, who allegedly detained her for an unknown reason and sexually assaulted her in an office next to the community service centre. She went home and was followed by the officer who arrived in an SAPS vehicle. It is alleged that the accused told her to accompany him to a plantation near her home, where he raped her in the SAPS vehicle.

The accused handed himself over to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate and was arrested and detained. He also handed in his resignation later that week.
