A West Acres resident had a rude surprise on Saturday, when someone drove through her wall.
It later transpired that it was one of the neighbours of Ms Ciska Kay who crashed her vehicle through the brick perimeter wall, ending up in the yard.
The incident occurred at around 19:00. Kay heard a very loud noise coming from outside and immediately knew that someone had driven into the wall, since it is the third time a similar incident had taken place since she moved into the neighbourhood with her family.
Previously, a young man had fallen asleep behind the wheel of his car in the middle of the night and drove over a low wall surrounding the yard.
Another time a neighbour allegedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the wall.
On Saturday, Kay was relaxing at home when she heard the crash. It gave rise to quite a commotion outside. “When I heard the noise I immediately knew what had just happened.
However when I heard people screaming I got a little scared and wondered if people had been injured. I didn’t know what to think.”
Kay went outside. Here she saw the driver, a woman, walking away from the crash, into her neighbour’s yard who she knows.
A short time later two members of the neighbouring family arrived. What had apparently happened is that the woman was driving in Banket Street in front of the Kay residence in the direction of Madiba Drive.
She lost control of the car, because next thing she was through the wall which stands counter to the curve in the road.
“I don’t understand how my neighbour’s car crashed into my wall, considering that she was driving passed my house,” said Kay.
She said she was most concerned about her daughter who usually plays outside next to the wall.
She would be happy if people could focus on the road to avoid another accident.
Nobody was injured in the crash and no charges have been pressed.
