Destitute family now has a decent home thanks to contractors

KAMAQHEKEZA – The lives of a family of seven children and an elderly citizen have been changed remarkably, thanks to the efforts of a service provider from the municipality.
This was revealed on Saturday September 21 when Nkolele Projects, a company appointed by the Nkomazi Local Municipality, to renovate the KaMaqhekeza Soccer Stadium, handed over a five-room house to the destitute Sithole family.
They had been living in a shack and were dependent on handouts from community members. The executive mayor of Nkomazi, Cllr Thulisile Khoza, officially received a fully furnished house from the contractors.
According to Bongane Masuku, a partner at Nkolele Projects, it is the company’s general practice to identify an impoverished family and come to its aid every time they acquire business from a specific municipality.
“We decided that as contractors, when we receive any business from the municipality, we should ask the community to identify a needy family that we could assist. This would be our way of giving back to the municipality and the community it serves,” Masuku said.
He added that this was not the first or the last time they built a house for a needy family. He furthermore said it would be encouraging to see other contractors doing likewise.
As part of the contractors’ donation, they also gave them beds along with other furniture and food parcels.
The company started the construction of the house during this year’s Nelson Mandela Day celebrations, and completed it earlier this month.
Rose Sithole, the recipient and grandmother of the kids, was overjoyed and humbled by the donation. Sithole said she never thought or dreamt that she would be the owner of such a beautiful house.
“I am truly humbled and overjoyed by all of this. They have not only built us a beautiful house, they have also given us furniture for all the rooms. The window frames are not even your average steel frames. These are quality wooden window frames. I don’t think I would have ever been able to afford that. All I can say is thank you very much, to Nkolele Projects, and may the almighty God continue to bless you in your business.”
The mayor of Nkomazi, Cllr Khoza, said if all companies who did business with the municipality, and local businesses would do as Nkolele Projects, poverty would become a thing of the past in Nkomazi.
“I challenge and encourage all businesses to adopt this culture of ploughing back into the community. I tell you, if more businesses adopt this culture and mentality, poverty would be eradicated in Nkomazi, and become a thing of the past,” Khoza said.
