EMJINDINI – Two school pupils have been suspended and will appear in front of a internal disciplinary hearing at Kamhola High School on Thursday.
The one stabbed the other during a fight in which a third learner was involved.
A video posted on Barberton Times’ website on Thursday in which an unarmed Kamhola High School learner in Emjindini was stabbed, has had over 2 900 views on Youtube.
The fight with a fellow learner happened the previous Friday at break time at the school. According to Mr Sibusiso Madonsela (21), a grade-11 learner and one o those suspended, the fight started between him and a pupil.
The other pupils threw a container containing urine on him. He retaliated and the altercation intensified.
The two traded blows and a large crowd of cheering learners gathered around them. No teachers are to be seen on the video and no-one attempted to stop the fight.
Learners can be heard commenting on the fight. Another learner appeared from the large crowd that was watching the fight and stabbed Mandonsela twice in the left side of his chest.
Mandonsela was treated for superficial stab wounds at Barberton Provincial Hospital and discharged the same day. Kamhola principal, Mr Joel Ntuli investigated the stabbing and has sent a report to the provincial department of education.
The content of the report is not known and at the time of going to press Mr Jasper Zwane, spokesman for the department, could not be contacted for comment.
Madondela claims that the Barberton Police Station refused to open a case the Saturday after the stabbing. Const Tutu Nkosi, police spokesman, said no one can be denied to open a case. “We urge the victim to come to the station to open a case and if denied, he must request to see the station commander, Col Sunbright Ndlovu,” she said.
A criminal case has since been opened and police are investigating.
