MBOMBELA – An alleged fraudster who is wanted for missed court appearances in the Lowveld is on his way back to Gauteng. Mr Derek Poole faces fraud charges in courts in Sandton as well as Hazyview and Mbombela. He was apprehended in Durban last Monday.
Sgt Goodwill Ramagweja, the investigating officer in Gauteng, told Lowvelder that arrangements had been made to fetch Poole from KwaZulu-Natal this week. “He will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.”
Poole’s arrest came about on a reactivated warrant which had been issued after he had failed to show for his trial in Wynberg in August.
He had also failed to show for his last two scheduled court appearances in Mpumalanga. Arrest warrants had previously been issued for Poole in the Hazyview and Mbombela courts due to him not showing up on scheduled dates. Lowvelder has in the past reported that this was sometimes due to double bookings in the different courts, but his last missed appearances were not.
In Hazyview he is accused of faking payment to a tour company for services it provided, and in Mbombela of defrauding a former business partner and assaulting a former landlord.
