Hit and run at Mabocha village leaves man dead
"The police did not even secure the scene, it shows they did not care," they complained.
MABOCHA – A man identified as Mr Emmanuel Ratshile (30) was killed in a hit and run incident at Ga Mokobola Section at about 17:00 on Saturday September 27. Eyewitnesses said the driver of a white Toyota Corolla lost control of his vehicle, hitting Ratshile who was walking next to the road with his friends.
“He did not hoot or try to alert us. He was driving at a very high speed,” the eyewitnesses alleged.
When Steelburger arrived at the scene, the locals were fuming with anger as they accused the police of not chasing after the vehicle and not doing enough to apprehend the suspect.
“The police did not even secure the scene, it shows they did not care,” they complained.
Ratshile was declared dead upon the arrival of Tubatse police at the scene. There was no sign of the Corolla or its driver. The relatives of the deceased allegedly tried to chase after the vehicle but to no avail.
Tubatse SAPS station commander Col Frans Leopeng confirmed to the Steelburger/Lydenburg News that the suspect had handed himself over to the police, and they were still continuing with their investigation.
“He claimed he fled the scene because he was scared community members would assault him,” Leopeng said.
Meanwhile the family and friends of the victim said they wanted the suspect to face the full might of the law.
