MAC warns community about the date-rape drug

Malalane Against Crime (MAC) would like to inform the Kaalrug Farming community about the use of the date-rape drug in recent cases of assault.

NOTICE – Malalane Against Crime (MAC) would like to inform the Kaalrug Farming community about the use of the date-rape drug in recent cases of assault.

It happened twice in less than a week (Friday August 22 to Wednesday August 27) on the Richtershoek Road.

On both occasions, a young black male was found lying next to the road, apparently drunk out of his mind, with no ID, no wallet or money, and both times an ambulance was called. On arrival the medics attending to the victim said it was a case of drug usage.

The modus operandi is as follows: the victim accepts a lift from a taxi driver or person in a car. The driver then offers the victim something to drink, usually a fizzy one.

The common drug used is the well-known date-rape drug, “Roofie” (Rohypnol or Rohipnol). The drugged victim is then robbed of his possessions and thrown out of the moving vehicle. One victim suffered severe injuries and was admitted to hospital.

Farmers are asked to inform all their employees about the danger. These two incidents involved men, but women are just as vulnerable.
