It’s all fun and games at local church festival
Various activities were lined up for the church members and community to participate in
LYDENBURG- The NG Church Lydenburg-south held its annual Oesfees this past weekend. Various activities were lined up for the church members and community to participate in. Entertainment and food were also provided during this fun-filled event.
On Friday, children participated in a cake decorating competition; they were divided into three different groups. The first group was preschool to gradethree; then grade four to six and lastly grade seven to 11.
Three winners were selected in each group, in the first group the winners were Melissa Badenhorst and Cecilia Meyer in first; second were Mikaela Broekman and Lirie Mellet and in third Isak Nieman and Jodi Badenhorst.
In the second group the winners were Daniel van Aarde in first place; Marco Saayman and Jonathan Wilson were second and in third place it was a tie between Ethan Valentine and Wynand Boshoff and Wandri van Heerden and Derick van Heerden.
In the last group Ruach Burger and Joshua Wilson took first place; Lize Steyn and Celaine Malan secured position two and Jonel du Toit was third. All the winners received prizes and they all looked very happy.
The adults enjoyed their own activities which included “My man can” which received a lot of attention. Men participated with the assistance of their wives. The first challenge was to thread a needle and sew a button onto a small piece of material.
Other challenges included baking pancakes with their eyes closed and riding a bicycle backwards.
On Saturday morning the stalls opened and by noon most had already sold more than half their stock. Sunday after the church service the weekend was concluded with a celebratory lunch. Minister Fred Wilson said that the funds generated would will be used for events the church planned to host during 2015. “We will also donate some of the money to charity to make a difference in our community,” he concluded.
